Block Party canceled; officials seek to hold similar event in 2019

The Williamsville Village Board on Monday agreed to cancel the annual Block Party due to the ongoing Main Street construction project.

Village officials said that because construction is scheduled to occur within the same area of Main Street that the Block Party would be held, the cancellation was issued out of concern for public safety.

The Block Party, which closed Main to traffic from Mill Street to Cayuga Road to allow for an evening of special community activities and live entertainment, had been held on the second Saturday of each August since 2013.

Mayor Dan DeLano said the Village Board is discussing the possibility of holding an event similar to the former Block Party next year that will coincide with a celebration of bringing Picture Main Street to fruition.
