If you’re an ash tree in the Village of Williamsville, the doctor will see you now! Our Village trees are currently being inoculated against Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). In the Village, we treat our trees before infestations are found, because the effects can be devastating when the insects reproduce and allowed to spread to other trees. While some experts might not recommend treating your ash tree before Ash Borer is found, it may take up to three years for your tree to show obvious signs of infestation. And by then, it may be too late to save.
If you see pesticide signs near Village trees, please don’t take them down! This is an important way of letting the public know the tree is currently being treated. These treatments are done similarly to vaccines, and there is no spraying or external application of the serum.
Emerald Ash Borers were first discovered in NYS in 2009. For more information on EAB, visit the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation website.
