Village adopts laws on telecommunications, flood damage prevention

The Village Board during its meeting on Monday, April 8, adopted two local laws following public hearings on both items.

The first local law establishes uniform standards for the siting, design, permitting, maintenance, and use of wireless telecommunications facilities in Williamsville.

To provide 5G connectivity speeds to its users, telecommunications companies are currently seeking to attach micro cell and distributed antenna systems to existing poles or infrastructure technology systems within municipalities across the nation. The micro cell units are often the size of refrigerators.

The village’s law allows for the managed development and placement of wireless telecommunication facilities in a manner that enhances the benefits of wireless communication and accommodates the needs of village residents, businesses and wireless carriers.

The second law is an update to the village’s Flood Damage Prevention policy.

According to the law, the purpose is to promote the public health, safety, and general welfare and to minimize public and private losses due to flood conditions in specific areas.
