HAWK Signal Safety: A visual guide to the signal’s function

The Village of Williamsville is raising awareness of the purpose and functions of the HAWK signal, a pedestrian-activated device that will soon be operational on Main Street.

The pedestrian hybrid beacon, more commonly referred to as a “HAWK,” is derived from the phrase “High-intensity Activated crossWalK” signal. Click here for a downloadable and printable brochure regarding the HAWK signal.

Below is an animation that dictates the step-by-step operation of the HAWK signal, which is set to be installed in front of the Williamsville Library.

Additionally, below is a short video that shows the HAWK signal in use by a pedestrian. The video was authorized to be used by the New York State Department of Transportation.
